Slacker

I know I am a slacker. I don't mean to be, but some how life gets in the way and I forget about the blog. I apologize to my fans, if I have any, which I hope I do.
Anyways I am going to at least post something fun today. I was not sure at first what to blog about. I haven't been shooting to much. I know people say to not tell people how slow you have been. Guess what, we all are slow at some point. As I have been with the blog I have been with my business. I don't know how people with families and lives do it all. I want to spend time with the family, with friends and work on my business. I don't feel like I have that much time in a day to do it.
I made time tonight to share something funny.
I said I haven't been shooting to much which is true. I took my 18 month old son out in the parking lot of where we live and tried to get a new photo of him for our wall. This was a funny thing for my son apparently. He thought we were playing a game the whole time. Running away from me, turning his back to me and of course always looking down to see where he was going. I could have screamed. Actually I think I did. (not at him just the situation)
As I was trying to get his attention I realized that he is his own person and not every shot I am going to get the winning shot of him looking at me laughing or smiling at the camera, or even getting the looking away shot that makes you think. No I had to just shoot and try, and try I did. I chased him all through the parking lot up hills and down hills, on a bridge and almost giving me a heart attack when he thought it was cute to look over the bridge. ( it has a railing but it is still scary) Kids are fun and funny, I think that is why I love to shoot them the most. They let me see the world how they see it. If you ever want to just laugh or smile think like a child. It is an amazing world out their through their eyes.
I know maybe not funny to everyone but if you have a child or know someone who does you know watching them play and play with you is a funny and rewarding thing.

Getting the family together

So for this holiday season I decided to surprise my grandma with a photograph of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was not easy to do, may I first tell you.
Everyone is older and have their own lives and their own families. Oh did I mention I live 2hrs away too. So I had to email everyone, tell them what colors to wear and what time to show up. I picked a palette of purple, teal and gray. The guys had to wear the gray and the girls could wear either of the other colors. When you plan ahead and get a color scheme in place it makes things very easy to look cohesive. That is rule one when you are having a photograph taken of a large family. When everyone wears different colors and styles it makes the photo look "crappy" for a lack of a better term.
Once I had gotten everyone on board then you have to be flexible. If you become too flexible the photo may never be taken. So be flexible but once you have one thing decided that should not be changed. I decided to put out three days that were good for my family to come up, since we are the furthest from everyone else. I also made sure the location of the photo shoot was close to the majority of the people in the photo.
So we decided my sisters house on a Saturday. Now time, I thought at first I had the time but things change and this is where flexibility comes in. We had to change the time 3 different times due to naps for my little guy and work schedules.
Once you have the time down that is when you email everyone involved and let them know time,date and location. From there you just hope traffic is good and no one decides they can't do the photo that day.
Even though it took a few days to get everyone to agree on a a date and time. Once the day arrived everyone showed up ready and on time. Funny thing my sisters house was the one I was worried about being on time. LOL. They did great.
This is what we got out of just a few simple plans and just about 20 mins of shooting.
Thanks to everyone in my family for helping me out this holiday season. Grandma loved the photo and I believe she already has it hung up on her wall for all to see.
P.S. I even got a photograph of my moms grandchildren too so that way I killed 2 birds with 1 stone!!

Hello 2012!!!
I am hoping this year is going to be a year of greatness you for and myself. I know I have been lazy with the blog but I am hoping I can change that this year. I feel that I have this resolution every year. Maybe one day it will stick.
Anyways, I got to photography this great family right before the holidays! The Mc. Family. They are very close friends to my sister and by association me too. I have never taken a bad photo of them. It is like they all should be modeling. Even the husband is a good subject to photograph. He ever gives me that uhh look, always looks at me and pays attention when I am instructing them on what to do. (even during this shoot my sisters boyfriend was trying to distract him and he still gave me great shots)

The "T" Family

The "T" family mom, like most moms, has been getting there photos taken every year for the holidays. She found me through a friend on facebook, her go to place shut down. She told me a story about one time they went and only got 1 good photo of their son. After hearing about that I knew I was going to be challenged. Needless to say I won! Her kids were great and I think we got some really good shots.

Since we all know that the holidays are right around the corner. It is time for the annual Holiday card!! Now you may not like to get your photo taken, but people love to see how you and your kids have changed throughout the year. So why get your photos taken at home or at your local park by ME! The "L" Maternity Shoot

So I had the great pleasure of photographing my best friend and his wife. They are expecting their first baby in March! I am so happy for them. Here are some of the shots we got when they came down to Louisville, they live in Dayton, Ohio.
Megan glows in every photo. It was hard to choose which one's to pick.

Recyclable Craft

I love when you can reuse something for something else. This is great fro those people (myself included) that have cookie sheets that just don't look or work right. My son thinks that the cabinet that holds the cookie sheets is his cabinet to get into at any moment. So he walks on them, hits them and pretty much destroys them. But they are not reusable after all that just not good for even baking. So I found this great idea on Disney Family Fun site. It is for a message board made out of a cookie sheet. Here is what you need:

Materials

Non-aluminum cookie sheet
Ruler
Scissors
Self-adhesive shelf liner
Scrap of wood
Hammer
Large nail

Empty can
Glue (we used Crafter's Pick The Ultimate)
Supermagnets
Bottle caps
Card stock
Markers

Instructions

Measure the back of your cookie sheet and cut a piece of shelf liner that's an inch wider and an inch taller. Stick the shelf liner to the back of the cookie sheet by peeling off one corner of the liner and laying it down on a corner of the cookie sheet. Slowly pull the backing away as you smooth the liner onto the sheet. Cut off the excess shelf liner.
To make a hole for hanging, place the cookie sheet over a piece of scrap wood and use a hammer to punch a nail through the center of the rim.
For the pencil holder, cut a piece of shelf liner that's about an inch taller than the can. Wrap the liner around the can so that the ends overlap a bit, then cut off the excess liner. Glue two magnets to the side of the can.
For the bottle-cap magnets, glue a magnet inside of each cap. Cut a piece of card stock to fit the cap, write a name on it, and glue it on top of the magnet.

The M Family

The M Family

This family was so much fun. They really let me do what I wanted. We met in Downtown Louisville. I found this place right by the railroad tracks and it had some great architectural details. Turns out that when they were up in this arch way they saw what appeared to be a homeless person home. We did not touch anything but it was sad to see how others live in America. The kids were a lot of fun. X the oldest had this new skateboard thing that he loves to ride and J was just learning to ride his bike. I love that I got to capture that moment when he really got how to turn to the bike and not run right into the curb.

Tiny Toez Photography

So if you know me, I have been doing a lot of things lately. My son Andrew is getting so big and we are trying to have another. Fingers crossed! I used to be Impulse Photography but my wonderful husband came up with a new name for the business Tiny Toez Photography. It has been revamped and I am loving the style and the response that I am getting from everyone that visits. So if you haven't checked it out please make sure you do: www.tinytoez.net
My goal on here is to find some fun things for parents and kids to do. Most if not all will be for the Louisville, Kentucky area and some for Cincinnati, Ohio. So every year I do a Holiday card and every year I use Shutterfly for my printing. If you have ever been to their site you will find that it is the easiest thing to use for the holidays. So I have not been on here for a while. If you don't know me then let me fill you in on what is going on. I am about to give birth to our first child in July. I have been very busy trying to get ready for our new addition. So needless to say the blog went on the back burner. Here are a few things that I have shot recently.

So I am so happy to have some new lights that just came in the mail today.
I wanted to share my first image from these lights. I have always wanted my "wedding" vase. I photographed my sisters while I was in school and when I registered I looked everywhere for my "wedding" vase, but no luck. My Aunt Jane found one that is so beautiful that I fell in love with it. So I now have gotten the chance to photograph my vase. Let me know what you think. I think it turned out great.

So here are some shots I liked from Rome. The statue says to me that it is a family and it is always guarded by a solider of god.
The fountain is Trevi fountain at night. I really just can't believe this thing is just in the middle of nothing. You just walk down this road and end up at this amazing fountain.
And finally our bathroom. Can you figure out what to do to flush the toilet?? It took Steve awhile to figure it out.

You hit the buttons above the toilet little one of number one and the big one for number two.

We were in the Vatican and saw all of this art. One image is a tribute to Jim and Napoleon Dynamite and the classic pose of any photographer. LOL!

So we went to the Vatican and while we where on our guided tour, which is the best thing we could have done we would have missed so many things without the tour guide guy. Anyways, we were learning about the Sistine chapel and we where out in this court yard looking at these poster type things, because you are not allowed to talk in the chapel so he explained in detail what weach selection meant and so fourth, I saw this head that just screamed take my photo. So I did. I think it really speaks to me for some reason. This one may even go up in my house.

So I just got back from my honeymoon so I have not been shooting too much besides the honeymoon. I figured I would wait to post those jsut yet since it has only been 2 days since i have been home. I was looking through my older stuff and came across a photo I took when I was shooting a wedding with Tracy Doyle. I really like food so I really liked it when this one couple had this salad. I liked how it looked.

So I had the pleasure to shoot my good friend Joel's wedding. It was a lot of fun and his bride Megan was glorious. Here are some of the images I have from that day.
They got married at Cox Arboretum in Dayton,Ohio. The weather could not have been better. Everyone had a great time. I wish the happy couple many years of happiness.

Savannah, a old friends daughter that could not take a bad photo. She is so cute. And I could not forget cute Edith. She is just all smiles. I don't think I have ever seen her without a smile.

I got to take Steve out to dinner for his b-day. On the way back to the car I noticed how beautiful the fountain was with the e lights behind her. It was just a site that I really felt proud to be a Cincinnatian for once.

US first Jail

Last year for thanksgiving we traveled to Philly, where the first jail of the US was located. This is a look at how long the halls were in this place. The spaces for the guys were very small and had no windows. It was a scary place to visit but it was really cool to photograph.

I pass this everyday back from one photographer I work with and never noticed it till one day when a red light made me stop right in front of this apartment building it looked so peaceful. Too bad the only reason I saw it was because what I thought was a red light taking forever to change was actually a car that was broken down. Not so peaceful for them.

I am always looking for something neat to post. I was driving by a place that I see everytime I work with this one photographer and always thought this wall of tiles looked interesting but never stopped. This time as I was driving by I finally took this great photo. I think this wall is made by some students in the same building as the photographer I work for. They all had an idea and put this together. It is really nice to see this type of art in a not so pretty part of town.
